Are you in the market for that next sturdy and reliable work truck to get you through days on the job site or running errands? Come check out the 2025 Ford F-150 for sale near Peoria at Roanoke Ford. We’d love to show you all that this best-selling light-duty, full-size truck has to offer. If you’ve been looking for a while, you’ve probably compared the F-150 to the Silverado 1500, as these are two of the most well-known full-size trucks. With some feature overlap and reputable brands behind both, it’s no wonder people consider the two side by side.

However, if your life in central Illinois involves work boots, power tools, trailers, or all the above, we think the F-150 is the superior choice. Ford designed it with industrious drivers in mind. It has several features that help it leave the Silverado 1500 in the dust. Today, we are going to look at some of our favorite features that make the F-150 a top choice for those who prioritize utility and efficiency.

The F-150’s Pro Power Onboard Generator

This first feature of the Ford F-150 might be a reason enough to stop looking at any other trucks, especially if you’re looking to power tools and devices. Ford has been making waves with its onboard generator, the Pro Power Onboard. It provides a practical solution to moments when you arrive at a job site and find all the power outlets have been taken. It’s also useful for days when you go camping and there are no outlets at the site. Plus, when a power outage takes the city by storm, you won’t need to sweat it when you have the Pro Power OnBoard.

This system gives you access to up to 7.2 kW of electrical power. That’s enough to power a large portion of a home or even an entire small RV. Think things like the refrigerator, lights, or an air conditioning unit. Imagine if a power outage occurred during a heatwave. Being able to kick that AC back on thanks to your truck’s generator will be a major benefit. What about the food in your freezer that could go bad during an outage? With the Pro Power OnBoard, that simply is not a concern.

The Silverado 1500 does not have any such generator at this time. It has some 120V outlets, but that’s it. The utility, recreational, and emergency uses for the Pro Power Onboard are not to be overlooked. If you want to ensure you’re never without power when you need it, whether camping, working, or simply hanging out at home during an outage, you’ll want the Ford F-150.

A Plethora of Engine Options, Including a Hybrid

Next, let’s talk about the powertrain options. The Ford F-150 outpaces the Silverado 1500 in this category by miles. It offers six total engine options, including several V6 options, two V8 engines, and a hybrid option.

The Silverado 1500 has only four engine options. However, the most important difference to note is that it does not offer a hybrid model. While both the F-150 and Silverado 1500 have fully electric options, some drivers prefer the versatility of a hybrid model. It allows them to rely less on fuel while still having fuel as an option when they don’t have access to an electric vehicle charger.

The most efficient powertrain available for the Silverado 1500 is the Duramax turbo diesel engine. However, if you are looking to move away from purely gas-powered vehicles, for the Silverado, your options are limited to a fully electric model.

Towing and Payload Capabilities That Rise Above the Silverado 1500

Plan on towing some large vessels around Peoria? Then towing figures matter, and the F-150 can tow more than the Silverado 1500. The F-150 can tow up to 13,500 lbs, while the Silverado 1500 can tow just 13,300 lbs. Those extra 200 pounds can make a major difference when you’re headed out for a day of boating or need to take a trailer or tractor across the job site.

The F-150 also has a higher payload number; it can haul up to 2,440 lbs in its bed, while the Silverado 1500 can only tow up to 2,260 lbs. With nearly 200 extra pounds of capabilities in both the towing and payload spaces, the F-150 simply empowers you to move more items.

A Dynamic Tailgate Ready for Work and Play

Next, we will look at the tailgates of these two models. We can’t objectively say that one is better or worse. Each manufacturer has made a point to design a distinct tailgate made to streamline tasks.

The F-150 has the available Pro Access tailgate. The Pro Access tailgate swings open, swiveling 180 degrees to give you easy access to your bed’s contents. Plus, it has a soft power opening feature, so at the push of a button, it will slowly drop down for a quiet and smooth transaction.

You’ll also find work-ready perks built into the gate, including rulers for measuring materials and slots for beverages and pencils—they’re even magnetized to keep your items in place. And, of course, it features the F-150’s popular dual bottle opener, allowing you to crack open refreshing beverages at the job or campsite. While not a part of the tailgate exactly, the F-150 bed does have LED box lighting. So you’ll always easily identify your contents even in the dark.

The Silverado 1500 has the MultiFlex tailgate. It has a very different design from the F-150. Rather than swinging out, it can fold into a variety of positions, such as a work surface, a full width step and load stop. Either option can make common job site tasks easier. However, we do really appreciate the rulers and beverage holders in the F-150.

When you know you aren’t reliant on on-site outlets to power tools and appliances, you can say yes to more jobs and more recreation. Its many powertrain options, including hybrid options, make the F-150 easier to adapt to your driving and towing needs—easier than the Silverado 1500, which has limited, gas-only engine options.

The higher towing and payload figures of the F-150 make it the obvious choice for anyone transporting large vessels and materials. Finally, we simply prefer the Pro Access tailgate to the MultiFlex tailgate for the small details like a ruler and a bottle opener.
